For those of you with mac IIs I have included a color pixel pattern that
I prefer to the standard 8 x 8 background pattern. Unlike the standard
background pattern (system ppat ID = 16) this pattern has dimesions of 32 x 32.
The process of making this your backgound pattern is as follows:
Note: Be careful. If you follow this process correctly it should work fine.
But ResEdit is powerful, and if you do something wrong you could mess
up your system. So you might want to make a backup of you system file
before you start.
1) Use ResEdit and copy the ppat, ID = 16, from the file checker green ppat.
2) If you don't have a color background pattern already use the general from the
control panel to set up a color background pattern. This is necessary because
we will be replacing this ppat with our checker green ppat.
3) Use ResEdit to open up the 'ppat' resource from within the system with .
Select the ppat ID = 16 and duplicate it. (We need to make a backup because if
we want to use general from the control panel to change the background pattern
we need a 8 x8 pixel pattern to edit. It doesn't understand ppats that
are not 8 x 8. Maybe in System 7.0??)
4) Once you have made a back up of the old ppat ID = 16, paste in the one you
copied from checkered green ppat. It should be on the clipboard.
5) Quit everything and reboot. You should now have a very nice background pattern.
If you have any problems you can mail me and I might be able to help you.
